Heanor Festival press release, August 2009
Heanor Festival Committee is calling upon the community to help raise funds to enable next year's Festival to be even bigger and better than previous ones.
The first of these events will be a Quiz evening. It will take place on 3 September 2009, 7-00pm until 9-00pm at the Wilmot Street centre in Heanor. The organisers are looking for teams of up to four people to take part. The more teams that enter, the better the evening. Entry is £5-00 per team with a £20-00 prize to the winners.
Please ring 01773 717572 to register your team and help boost the Festival funds.
Chairman, David Rowley, said, "We are looking forward to an enjoyable evening, there will be refreshments available, including a bar and tombola. We hope the community will support us in our efforts and at the same time test their general knowledge skills. This will be the first of a series of events in the build up to the Festival 2010."
Look out in the local press and on our posters for future fund raising events. The festival also has its own web-site, www.heanorfestival.co.uk
As more events are planned the committee would also like to hear from any interested volunteers. Help is always gratefully accepted and if you would like to get involved please contact 01773 512076.

Recycled Fashion Show
Students modelled recycled clothing from Salcare.

Heanor fashion Show Better Than New York: Letter to Buxton Advertiser, Published Date: 21 May 2009
Madam,
A friend got me a ticket to attend the Recycled Fashion Show at Heanor Gate Science College on Wednesday, May 6, as part of Heanor Festival Week.
On the same day, I bought a copy of the Daily Mail.
In the Mail, there were numerous photographs of models and celebrities attending the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The models at Heanor Gate had been asked to recycle garments and fabric bought from Salcare, the charity shop on Ray Street.
The student models had cut, altered, sewn, spray painted and added fur, glitter, ribbons, belts, buttons and zips.
They wore the finished garments with style, attitude and panache, and looked wonderful.
What a pleasure to watch. They strutted their stuff down the catwalk.
The show was fast, slick and a great commentary was given by Joshua Neville.
A most enjoyable evening was had. It was great.
Returning to New York and the professional models, Kate Moss looked as if she was dressed in tin foil.
Madonna appeared to be about to appear in pantomime.
She was dressed in a blue outfit, long thigh-length boots and looked as if she had two socks fixed to her hair.
Victoria Beckham appeared to have a napkin fastened to her rear.
Debbie Harry, dressed in red silk pyjamas, looked as if she'd just got up.
Others were even worse. It was an absolute disaster.
So well done Heanor Gate Science College.
The celebrities need to visit Salcare and set a seamstress to work.
If another show is performed next year, be sure to go. It beats New York any day.
Money doesn't give style.
