Welcome to the Heanor Festival website. The next Heanor Festival will take place from Saturday 25th June to Saturday 2nd July 2011 when a large number of mostly free events are being organised for the enjoyment of the Heanor community and visitors to the area. 8 May
Dawn Chorus Walk
Time: 4.00am – 6.00am
Venue: Red River Nature Reserve
FREE EVENT
Listen to the wide variety of birds singing in the new day with an expert to help you identify them. Refreshments are provided at the end of the walk. Phone 01773 768579 to book a place.

Wander round the many displays depicting the different sports and leisure activities the community of Heanor and surrounding area got involved in and find out if these activities still continue today.

The Olympics is the theme for the artwork by students of Aldercar Community Language College complimented with floral displays by local groups.

Concert
Time: 7.15pm
Venue: Heanor Methodist Chirch, Market St, Heanor

26 June
Fun Day
Time: 12.00noon – 5.00pm
Venue: Heanor Market Place
FREE EVENT
Opened by Anna Church, TV ’s local weather girl, the event will packed with music, entertainment, games, stalls and children’s activities, including a climbing wall. There will also be a display of the Olympic flags made by the local schools during workshops on the run up to the Festival - sponsored by NatWest 
26 June
Animal Magic
Time: 11.00am – 4.00pm
Venue: Visitor Centre and adjacent events field, Shipley Country Park, Slack Lane, Heanor
FREE EVENT
An event showcasing pets and wild animals with West Hallam Animal Charities running a Fun Dog Show, an Insect Show run by Derbys and Notts Entomological Society, stalls and activities by local animal interest groups and rescued animals to meet and learn about. The PDSA’s Pet Check Unit will provide doggy MoT’s and pet advice. Small charge to enter fun dog show and other activities. An Evening with Ann Featherstone
Time: 7.00pm – 9.00pm
Venue: Heanor Library, Ilkeston Road, Heanor

A talk given by celebrated local author, Ann Featherstone, on her life and works to date. Admission is by ticket only, call 01773 762042.
Ann Featherstone is the author of several non-fiction books about the Victorian entertainment industry including THE VICTORIAN CLOWN, with Jacky Bratton. Her first novel WALKING IN PIMLICO brilliantly reconstructs nineteenth-century England in a gripping psychological thriller.

Art Exhibition

Venue: Derby College, Mundy Street, Heanor

In support of Heanor Festival, the students of Derby College have organised a special showing of their artwork, which is not normally open to the public.

Waste not, Want Not
Time: 1.30pm – 4.00pm
Venue: Wilmot Street Community Centre, Heanor
FREE EVENT
Come along and find out how to save money and cut down on waste, with helpful hints on how to make your money go further. Also an opportunity to join in chair-based exercises. Free refreshments available.
28 June
Zumba
Time: 6.30pm – 7.30pm
Venue: Heanor Gate Science College, Kirkley Road, Heanor
PRICE £3.50

Cycle 4 Supper
Time: 6.00pm – 8.00pm
Venue: Shipley Country Park, Slack Lane, Heanor
FREE EVENT
Join the Countryside Service and the Heart & Sole Group for a pleasant cycle ride around the park to encourage former and occasional cyclists to give it another go. Return for soup and a roll. Bring along a drink and own cycle (helmet recommended). Limited number of bikes for loan. Booking essential, please call 01773 719961. Not suitable for young children. Length: Up to 8 miles

Heritage Slide Show
Time: 7.30pm – 9.00pm
Venue: Wilmot Street Community Centre, Heanor
FREE EVENT
‘A Potted History of Heanor’ will be an illustrated talk by Robert Mee looking at the local history of Heanor and district including sport and leisure activities.

1 July
Storytelling Cafe
A night of ghostly tales and other stories
Time: 7.30pm
Venue: Conservative Club, Church Street, Heanor
Price: £5
The Woolly Tellers will keep you captivated with a mix of amusing and ghostly stories. If you have never been to one before, come along and experience the art of real storytelling. If you have been before, you'll know you are in for a great night. Food is included in the ticket price. To purchase tickets pleasee ring 01773 762042.

2 July
5–a–side Football
Time: 10.30am registration, prompt start at 11.00am
Venue: Wilmot Street Recreation Group, Heanor Recreation Ground, Wilmot Street, Heanor
FREE EVENT
5–a–side football tournament for local teams. Just for fun, i.e. pub teams, local businesses, police, fire, etc, all entrants to be over 16 years of age. Other activities will be available for younger people from 8 years and over (activities dependent on how many youngsters come to the event). Just bring suitable sporting clothing and plenty of enthusiasm. Trophies will be awarded. all teams must register prior to the day, email vicki.england@ambervalley.gov.uk or phone 01773 841652
